A specialist Ultra Violet Polarisation imaging camera is mounted to our drone which is then able to fly over an oil slick and provide information about its boundary’s, thickness and location. It records solar UV reflections from of oil slicks, and these reflections are not reliant on the temperature difference between the water and oil.

As a result, very thin layers of oil spill can be detected – as thin as 0.1 microns. The camera will record the inspection for future analysis and reporting. The drone camera streams clear and sharp video of the scanned area.

Main advantages of using a drone for Oil Slick Inspections:

  • Far more cost effective than a plane or helicopter
  • Perfect for shore survey work
  • Will support containment and recovery operations

Using a drone for oil slick detection and inspection offers a number of advantages over existing approaches.

Typically, these imaging cameras are mounted to small planes and light aircraft which are expensive to both kit-out and hire, notwithstanding the health and safety implications of such an operation. In addition, our drones can provide support for recovery and containment operations, as well as post treatment inspections and site security, to name but a few.

Drones are ideal for any shore survey that might be required too, covering ground far more rapidly than a team of individuals. The drone is also perfect for detecting leaks in underwater oil pipelines.

Networx3 UAV are one of the UK’s leading providers of drone surveillance and inspection services, with pilots that are qualified to the highest standards using state-of-the-art drones and surveillance equipment.
